The Diplomat’s Crossroads Asia section is looking for two summer interns to work with Managing Editor Catherine Putz in keeping up with one of Asia’s most dynamic, and undercovered, regions.

The internship will run from May 2022 to the end of July 2022, with the possibility of extending if circumstances permit.

Interns will be tasked with researching and writing two 500-1,000 word blog posts each month. They will collaborate with Diplomat staff on choosing topics that match their interests and expertise with news events and learn how to write for The Diplomat’s smart, but broad, audience. This internship is remote.

Interns will be paid for each blog published, with the opportunity to pitch additional paid feature articles. The interns will also receive a year subscription to The Diplomat’s website and magazine.

This internship is tailored toward MA and PhD students with demonstrated interest in and education about Central Asia (specifically Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and/or Uzbekistan) who want to develop their skills writing for public audiences. Recent graduates will also be considered.

How to Apply

With subject line “Internship Application: Your Name,” email Managing Editor Catherine Putz ([email protected]). Include a brief introduction, explain why you’re interested in the internship, and outline three ideas for blogs you’d like to write. Attach a resume.

Applications close Sunday, May 8.
